No ‘elp now
The hour has come, the clock has struck
Officials are gathered with clipboard and stop-watches
Photographers are near to record the event
For posterity, should posterity care.
He’s bleeding already, the noose has a shadow
The axeman’s hood and the firing squad’s hole:
All present, correct, in accordance with law
The grin is anomalous, soon to be shorn.
These grim lines are in response to a prompt from Tess at Magpie Tales. An antidote to too much saccharine, perhaps. More sweetness can be found here.

A powerful and edgy interpretation. Excellent.
whoa- this one snuck up on me-a dark twist!
I agree with Anthony and Kathe... and wonderfully vivid, too.
For posterity, should posterity care.
...I can hear the drum roll and the silent, nervous tittering of the crowd... intense!
I can see how this deadly image struck you! LOL
Grim.....and excellent! :)
Great take. I moved away from sweetness, too. Although opening stanza might deceive. Vivid scene you conjure here.
amazing images
Absolutely NOT- any silly sweetness!
This response surprised me but I could immediately see how you reached it.
Well taken.
Something different, really different, for this week...
Oooooo .. what a wonderfully vivid imagination you have, with writing skill to match!
Edgy! *chuckles* enjoyed it very much :-)
I like "the noose has a shadow" and "All present, correct, in accordance with law / The grin is anomalous."

I sure can do without sweetness here, now that you put it this way. And double brrrr!! Good, good...
Wholly original interpretation. Well done.
She'll remember; and well she should!

Cold and frightening! A picture not too good to think about. Very effective verse!

Mind blowing, Isabel. Thank you.
Ooh, chilling! Really enjoyed this.
The grin is anomalous -- perfect line for this image, I think. A truly creative take. Nice magpie!
