This is not a house ...

image from Ella

This is not a house ...

This is not a house, this is a fantasy cardboard cut-out:

Look at all those windows, the shutters, the porch,

all those rooms, the grand ideas.

Home to paper dolls (with extensive wardrobes):

flammable, flimsy and fleeting.

Spiders sneak around spinning their spider business,

flakes of paint drift down, eaves leak,

wood shivers and sags.

All those rooms, filled with piles of paper people ...

This is not a house, this is a chimera

Thanks to Poets United for the prompt.  More of the village can be found here.

Oh, this is really too good! It's clever and it's enjoyable and you leave the door open for the reader's imagination to contribute.

Spiders sneak around spinning their spider business

And you wove a great world for them to spin in, as the paper house crumbled...

This is chilling to think that this paper house full of paper people is a chiminea. Yikes!

It's not a house - ok no more haunted stuff *relief, relief* - dolls with extensive wardrobes to boot - ah... like it! But ...... a chimera???? Back to the scare.

A comment on modern life and aspirations, I think - well done.

You nailed it, Isabelle…and it is an ugly house besides. So sad, and the house was probably foreclosed on, because the paper people overextended themselves and the greedy mortgage and loan people gave them full rein.

PS. thank you for the Fureys.

Hi Isabel, I really like the images of paper people and how you used the prompt. I also agree that the last line is great!
